President’s Report What
a splendid meeting we had last week! Congratulations Ken for establishing the
Finals Week Footy Breakfast and promoting it so well. Our thanks go to Trevor
(good to see you Trev) for his work in
‘finding’ our guest speakers (Alan McAllister and Mick McGuane); to
The meeting was used to raise funds for Operation Cleft, and was an undoubted success both in raising money and awareness of the project with our visitors. One of our speakers, Mick McGuane very generously put ‘a smile on a child’s face’. Colin’s wonderful idea has now very clearly passed it’s trial stage and as a Club we will now have to think very clearly about where we take the project from here. Over the next few weeks it will be necessary to develop a business plan which will establish the size and duration of ‘the main game’.
We now head into a busy season – House for Homeless Youth (4/10 and 11/10), Bunnings Sausage Sizzle (7/10), RYPEN Reunion (9/10), Taralye Sensory Trail (15/10). This should take up the slack now the footy season is over! Have a good week in Rotary.
Michael Last Week’s Meeting Notes Roving Reporter Tony Stokes Guest Speakers: Alan McAllister and Mick McGuane. A near record crowd was in attendance for the Special Grand Final Week Breakfast, and it was a colourful spectacle with many
decked out in their AFL Team colours – none more resplendent than DG
Philip in his red and white Swans outfit. Chairman Ralston introduced special
guests Alan McAllister and Mick McGuane
from the Collingwood Football Club and announced the great news that Mick had
this very morning “purchased a smile” by sponsoring an Operation
Cleft child. Our sincere thanks, Mick. Alan, who spoke first, had a successful career in business before
taking on an administrative role at Collingwood, where he stayed for 13
years, 10 as President. Alan briefly shared some of his memories of the 1990
Premiership win over Essendon. Mick started his football at In all, a great morning, and special thanks to PP Trevor for making it
possible. Once again,
Murray Baird showed why he could always fall back to being an auctioneer if
the legal business ever dried up (unlikely!!). Through some skilful working
of the crowd and some very spirited bidding, a number of items of football
memorabilia were auctioned, raising over $500 for
Operation Cleft. Highlights were DG Philip successfully bidding for a picture
of the 2005 Swans Team with a little help from Libby, and John Bell paying
$100 for a 1955 Essendon members ticket, and promptly placing it back on
sale, where it was knocked down for a further $95. Thank you John for that
generous gesture. Announcements: Taralye Orienteering and Open Day Our club has been asked to assist in the running of the

MUNA Committee From District 9810 Website: Interact
Interact is an
international organisation of service and social clubs for young people of
secondary school age that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship and
promotes international understanding and peace. Combining the words
"international" and "action" created the name. Interact clubs are
sponsored by Rotary clubs. Rotary clubs provide
guidance and inspiration, but the Interact clubs are self-governing and
self-supporting. Clubs take a variety of forms; both single-gender and mixed
as well as large and small. The membership base of a club can be drawn from
the student body of a single school or from two or more schools from the same
community. Each year, Interact
clubs complete at least one community service project and at least one
project that furthers international understanding
and goodwill. Interactors develop a worldwide
network of friendships through exchanges with local and overseas clubs. Along
the way, Interactors develop their leadership
skills and initiative while meeting new friends. The Rotary Club of
Melbourne, Florida, USA, initiated the first Interact club in 1962. Today
there are more than 6,650 Interact clubs in some 103 countries and
geographical areas. For information
