RI Theme 2009-10

The Rotary Club of Mordialloc is a member club of the worldwide service organisation of Rotary International.  The Club is located in the south-eastern metropolitan area of Melbourne and its main activities are centred on Mordialloc, Parkdale, Mentone and nearby areas.  The club also participates actively in Rotary projects Australia-wide and internationally.

Weekly Meeting

The club’s weekly meeting is held at the Mordialloc Sporting Club, Corner Nepean Highway and Epsom Road, Mordialloc.  Meeting date and time are:  Tuesday 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm.

 

Recent and Coming Highlights

Community Kitchen Project

The community service committee is managing a new club project called “Community Kitchen”.  The program provides information and instruction in basic food preparation from purchase of foods to cooking and serving in three hour sessions held over 10 weeks.  The program is held at St Matthew’s Church hall, Nepean Highway Cheltenham.  Three programs of 10 weeks each were undertaken in 2008 and 2009. 

 

The first series for 2010 commenced on 5 February.

Annual Club Changeover 2009

The annual changeover of club officers for 2009 was held on Tuesday 30 June at Doyle’s Bridge Hotel, Mordialloc. Outgoing President David Brunt reported on club activities of the past year.  Incoming President Jack Pyziakos and his team were welcomed into office.

Rotary Response to the February 2009 Bushfires

Over $3 million has been collected by the Rotary districts of Victorian and Tasmania and is being used to provide relief projects in many of the affected communities.  For a progress report, please click on the following link:

Annual Art Show 2009 -  A great success

243 paintings were exhibited at the Rotary Club of Mordialloc’s 2009 Annual Art Show held at Westfield Shopping Centre, Cheltenham from Tuesday 4 to Sunday 9 August.  The overall standard of paintings was very good and approximately 25% of paintings on display were sold – a better result than in recent years. 

 

The major prize winners, selected by judge Paul McDonald Smith OAM, were as follows:

The major sponsor of this year’s art show was Westpac bank. As in past years, proceeds of painting sales will be directed to local Rotary youth programs

 

Interplast Golf Day – Woodlands Golf Club, Friday 9 April 2010

One of the club’s main international projects each year is to raise money to support Interplast – a joint venture between the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and Rotary Districts of Australia.   Interplast sends volunteer teams of plastic surgeons and support staff to undertake facial and other reconstructive surgery for poor people in the Pacific Islands and Asian countries.
