Shine On Awards 2007
The Shine On Awards have been introduced to recognise the outstanding service to the community of persons with disabilities. The awards recognize the outstanding community service by people with disabilities who, by their actions, serve as ‘Shining Examples’ to the community. Through their commitment to helping others in the Rotary spirit of ‘Service Above Self’ they provide a significant contribution to the quality of daily life of others in the local and wider community.
The candidate chosen by both the Rotary & Rotaract clubs is Dean Calder. Dean is legally blind and is currently a member & joint President of the Clayton Rotaract Club. He is also involved with the following, Victorian Blind Cricket Association (recently organised the joint cricket match between Rotaract/Rotary & VBCA), Victorian Goal Ball Association, Blind Sports Victoria & Swish Victoria (Blind Table Tennis).
The Shine On Awards presentation was held on the 6th May, 2007 at the Morwell Club in Morwell and were hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Morwell & Hazelwood.

RYPEN 2006 Kim Ear, Lina Lay and Daniel Lim (pictured above with Bill Sides (Rotary) & Laurie Nance (Westall SC) who are year ten students at Westall Secondary College attended the three day Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment Camp at Mt Evelyn. The activities included communication and interpersonal relationships, goal setting, motivation, teamwork, and fitness & self defence - all intended to foster leadership qualities and personal development. Sports and a Saturday night party provided plenty of fun and opportunities to make new friends. RYPEN 2005
The Rotary
Club of Clayton extended an invitation for five students to attend RYPEN
earlier this year. Four students came from Westall Secondary College and
one was from Monash Secondary College. Pictured above are the
four students from Westall who attended our meeting recently. The Rotary Youth Program
of Enrichment [RYPEN ] is a three day seminar for participants aged
between 14 and 17 years of age. Awardees are sponsored and paid for by
Rotary Clubs throughout District 9810. The RYPEN Seminar is conducted by
a Rotary Club on behalf of the District Governor and is required to
comply with the guidelines for a RYPEN Program. The program is designed
to demonstrate Rotary’s commitment in Vocational Service to our younger
generation. For more information

In support of the continued drive to improve literacy around the world, the Rotarians of District 9810 have launched this project to help the children of Zimbabwe. Unlike children in Australian schools and kindergartens, children of Zimbabwe lack the very basics - pencils, crayons and chalk - to draw and learn to write. For more information and to learn how you can help with this project click here. You can also contact the Rotary Club of Clayton
