MUNA
Model United Nations Assembly

The main aims are to develop in students an awareness of the U.N. and the international situation of other countries in the World.

MUNA challenges our youth to respect and tolerate differences of race, religion and nationalism whilst retaining their own individualism and the best of their national traditions.

MUNA as a concept, arose in North America from the desire of young people to simulates the workings of the U.N. Assembly by having teams of two or three senior students represent a particular U.N. country in debates on matters of World political and social concern.

Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored fellowship and service club for young men and women aged 18 to 30. Rotaract is more than just a community service club, it is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.

This effort starts at the community level by addressing the physical and social needs of their communities through a framework of friendship and service through fun and fellowship.

With Rotaract you can:
• Develop professional and leadership skills
• Serve your community & promote goodwill
• Gain an understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in your community and Worldwide.

RYLA
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program Worldwide.

Young people aged 19 to 25 are chosen for their leadership potential attend an all - expenses - paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice.  Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate the event's curriculum.

RYLA aims to:
• Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
• Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders
• Encourage leadership of youth by youth
• Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities

RYPEN
Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment

Young people aged 14 to 16 years old can broaden their cultural, social and academic horizons. RYPEN offers experiences that will assist in forming their own values and moral standards. 

This is achieved through shared ideas, problem solving, team and group activities, over a 'Fun Weekend'.

RYPEN aims to:
• Increased motivation and improved life skills
• Improve self esteem and gain pride
• Help understand how to set and achieve goals
• Give confidence to overcome failure and take control of their future

SESS
Sutherland Early Support Service

An Early Intervention Volunteer Home Visiting program to support mothers with new babies. Trained volunteers are carefully selected and supervised by the co-ordinators to visit families in their own homes.

SESS Mission ......
To improve the quality of life for families with newborns and young children and building a healthier community.

SESS Goals .....
• To decrease family stress and reduce/prevent future crises
• Provide an understanding of child development and behaviour
• Reduce social isolation
• Increase self-esteem, confidence and access to additional services
• Create a caring inclusive community by linking people together

ARHRF - Indigenous Medical Sholarship
Australian Rotary Health Reach Fund

A co-operative program between Rotary, the relevant Government Department in each State or Territory, and the Commonwealth Government.

The object of this program is to provide a scholarship to assist indigenous students to undertake a course in a wide range of health related professions. This will in turn enable them to use this education for the benefit of other indigenous people in some of our remote areas in Australia.

The scholarship is worth $5,000 per year, and State Governments have undertaken to subsidise funds raised on a dollar for dollar basis.

RYE
Rotary Youth Exchange

The Rotary Youth Exchange program is arranged by Rotary Clubs for young people to experience a year of education overseas. The program is recognised as the best student exchange program by schools, parents and the students themselves.

Students stay with host families who are arranged by the hosting Rotary Club. Host families may or may not be members of Rotary, but are always Rotary approved.

Who can apply?
Any young person, must be between the age of 15 to 19 years old to travel on the date of departure.

Applicants should be making sound progress at school. Have a good general knowledge of Australia - its political system, socio-economic policies and international affairs.

Applicants must have displayed high standards of personal conduct, have an outgoing personality and be interested in cultural or outdoor pursuits.

Bowelscan

Bowelscan is a Rotary program conducted by over 250 Rotary Clubs across Australia. These Clubs issue approximately 150,000 kits during their annual Colorectal Screening. Since Bowelscan commenced, it is estimated that more than 1,000 people with bowel cancer and 5,000 with polyps have been detected.

Bowelscan is a public awareness program to increase community knowledge of bowel cancer and its symptoms. The project involves the distribution of a simple test kit, to obtain a small specimens of faeces for analysis.

Cancer of the bowel is the commonest internal cancer to affect men and women in the western society. Over 9,000 Australians will be diagnosed as having bowel cancer this year and over 4,500 will die of the disease.

School Debating Competition

The debating competition provides a platform for students in Year 11 to develop debating skills and compete against other schools throughout the District.

It is open to all schools within the district and is organised as a knock out competition.
The final takes place at a normal dinner meeting of our Rotary Club, where contestants and the school staff are the guests of the Club. Trophies are awarded for the successful team and the runners up.

The subject is set by the District Chairman and the judges chosen for their experience in the subject. They are also provided with a set of criteria against which each team is judged.

Debating is run according to a 'Manual of Procedure' to achieve uniformity of treatment throughout the District.

Pride in Workmanship Award

This Award is designed to acknowledge an employee, irrespective of age or vocation, who displays outstanding qualities in dedication and commitment to their job in the eyes of their employer, peers or fellow workers.

The objectives:
• To encourage excellence in, and pride in workmanship in all vocations
• To provide employers with an opportunity to recognise employees who display those qualities which are worthy of an award
• To encourage favourable employer / employee relationships and a sense of community pride in individual achievement
• To provide an opportunity for Rotary to be involved in local businesses and community.

The emphasis is upon the theme:
Do it Once, Do it Well -
Build a Better Australia
