Welcome to the Rotary Club of Parkes
Web Site.
Parkes was named after
the then Premier of New South Wales, Sir Henry Parkes, recognised as the
"Father of Federation"
Situated in the Central West of New South
Wales, Parkes is the home of the famous CSIRO Radio Telescope, ("The Dish") which brought
you the TV coverage of man's first walk on the Moon.
Parkes lies astride the Newell Highway between Brisbane and Melbourne, and
the East / West rail line joining Sydney and Perth. Because of this, it is
fast becoming one of the largest freight centres in the country.
Originally founded as a mining community when gold was discovered in the
1880's, Parkes has developed as a rich farming and grazing centre. Recently,
it has again become a mining centre as well with the development of the
giant NorthParkes copper and gold mine.

The Club meets at the
Bushmans Motor Inn, Currajong Rd., Parkes, at 6.00pm on Mondays
