History

Hawkesbury Rotary Club started life as a lunch time club in the University of Western Sydney, Richmond Campus (known in a previous life as Hawkesbury Agricultural College) with a mix of members from the University staff and local businesses. It quickly outgrew its meeting room and moved to temporary sites. Subsequently it now meets as a Breakfast Club in Flares, The Conference Centre, cnr Dight and George sts Windsor

The Hawkesbury Club started off running. In the year of its Charter, with so few members the Rotarians succeeded in donating a piano to Bridges Disability Services; running a mushroom barbeque for the Hawkesbury Hospital Open Day; Gave assistance to the needy through Hawkesbury Care Inc; raised money for RAWCS which supplies Rotary Water Wheels to India; catered for the Hawkesbury Youth Forum; worked as gate and parking attendants at the Trivett Classic as well as running a Young Carers Adventure Weekend at Camp Mackay.

Despite supporting GSE Team visits, RYLA, PACE, YEP, the Rotary Foundation, the Australian Health Research Fund as well as numerous community needs, the ongoing focus each year has been on Young Carers.

From the original Young Carers Adventure Weekend this has grown to the

Rotary (Club of Hawkesbury) Young Carers Assistance Program  or RYCAP

with Barbara Holborow as Patron. The club has sponsored at least one, and sometimes two, holiday/respite camps per year for 11 years. This has involved major fund raising activities such as the Charity Race Days.
The contribution for each camp has ranged from $13,000 to $15,000.   .

In its short but eventful life the Hawkesbury Club has made a real difference to both its local community and the wider community of NSW.
