Willoughby Bean, a free settler, became the first European to select land at Erina Creek in 1824. Plans for Erina Township and Gosford Model Farms were approved in 1855. In the early days timber harvesting and citrus growing were important. Today Erina is the retail centre of the Scenic Central Coast of NSW. The name Erina is most likely of Aboriginal origin. The word Yerin or Gerrin, meaning a place where the initiation ceremony was held. The Rotary Club of Erina was chartered in June 1966. |
