The Rotary Club of North Sydney meets at 12.30 for 12.50 meeting at the North Sydney Leagues Club

Have a Look at some of the Photo's from our Changeover

Robert Lau was born 63 years ago and was raised in Hong Kong.

Robert has been married for 35 years and I must say when I asked him it took some minutes to work it out!

He adores his wife Mimi and family – they have two married daughters and two what he considers “spoilt grand daughters” and is to be especially lucky to have a grandson, due very shortly.  No doubt he will be equally spoilt by Robert and learn to drink Guiness at an early age!

As an adventurous teenager, Robert sought higher education in Australia.  He graduated from Sydney University before venturing off to a life outside Australia in Hong Kong, Europe and the United States.

It took Robert some 25 years to realise how deeply and badly he had missed his Aussie Days and the Aussie Ways.

Robert is a “mean Australian chef” at our Crows Nest markets!  Red wine and sausages are the flavour of every month!

Since his return, he has become unashamedly – a stay put Sydney-sider.

Robert tells me, in his prime, he had a lengthy career in a few disciplines of the earth sciences, notably meteorology and seismology.

He was active in the mitigation of and community preparedness for various natural disasters.  Typhoons, El Nino and sea flooding used to be his pet research topics.

There has been an absolute seachange in his interests however.

These days Robert is conversant with history, opera appreciation, thoroughbred racing and of course has a love of duplicate bridge.

Some may have noticed Robert and Mimi’s name in The North Shore Times last week for winning a Bridge competition.  Well done!

Robert joined North Sydney Rotary nearly 4 years ago and has endeared himself to us all with his generosity and love of life.  Robert is always smiling and happy.  He is a delight to be associated with and I can genuinely say how much I appreciate his friendship.

Robert considers himself a Rotary neophyte.

He feels overwhelmed by the honour of being President and I know we can all assure him of every member’s full support and know he will be a vibrant, outgoing and effective President.
