The Beginning
Rotary has, and always will be, an International Passport to Friendship around the world
To develop further our commitment to international understanding and goodwill and sparked through a friendship of many years between Dr. Marco Lanzetta, Deputy Medical Director of the Microsearch Foundation of Australia, and Past President Ray Hosking, this unique Friendship Exchange was established
On 28th September, 1998 at the Hotel de la Ville, Monza, Italy, the Rotary Club of Monza Ovest and the Rotary Club of Epping launched an International Friendship Exchange
Demonstrating a commitment to the Fourth Object of Rotary and in the presence of the Console Generale d'Australia in Italy, Rod Morehouse, and Dr.Carlo Monticelli, Rotary International Director, 1998/2000, we established a direct cultural and fellowship partnership to increase international understanding and awareness of both Italy and Australia within our communities
Rotary Ambassadors, Past Presidents, John Hayes and Ray Hosking, together with Wendy Hayes and Annette Hosking, represented the Rotary Club of Epping on this notable occasion
Joint International Service Projects, exchange family visits and home hosting and maybe Student Exchange programs could be developed in the future
Past President, Rotary Club of Monza Ovest, Filiberto Vago and Past Secretary Guido Nori have confirmed their commitment: "We have all been really impressed with your idea of collaboration and we will do our utmost to continue our Partnership"
Following this inauguration Past Presidents Ian McKay and Athol McCoy, together with Lyn McKay and Robin McCoy, also visited Monza Ovest to confirm and encourage the future ongoing development of this program to widen and deepen our Rotary family and community contacts for the benefit of our two great countries.
In a letter to President Filiberto Vago, Past President Ken Beacom said "In helping to create a better world for all, we can start today in the spirit of friendship by bridging the barriers of distance, race, colour and creed. Your contribution this year will bring us all closer, a springboard helping to ensure the future of all mankind".
