Activities and Achievements

July 1999. Exchange Student Natasha Lysova returned home to Russia.
Exchange Student Andy George arrived from Massena in New York State USA. Hosts Ian & Lyn Mackay, John & Viv. Corney, David & Joan Stewart and Carol & Michael Morgan.
Welcome home Dinner for GSE Team home from Turkey.
Theatre Party "Chicago" arranged by John Goddard.
John Worgan inducted with the classification of Banking.
Club Service Advisor Workshop conducted at the San Hospital.Rotarians and Rotannes assisted with hospitality.The event was organised by Monica Saville.
Dale Taylor inducted with the classification of Past Service.
August 1999. Members celebrated with the RSL its 80th Birthday at a Family Fun Day at Boronia Park and raised $591. Richard Farmer coordinated Rotary representation.
Primary School Debate between OLMC School and Epping West Public School. The topic"That Sydney needs the Olympics" OLMC won the ROY SADLER TROPHY, donated by Colin and Helen Campbell.
Bryan Wilson resigned having been inducted in 1976/77.
The dinner charge was increased from $15 to $16.50.
Di Walker was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
The club donated $500 to the Turkey Earthquake Appeal.
September 1999. A Trivia Night was held. The major beneficiary was Camp Quality $2475 was raised .The function was organised by Peter Tugwell.
The club supported PP John Hayes with his participation in the Camp Quality Car Caper donating $2000 to assist him.
The debate between Cheltenham Girls High and Epping Boys High Schools was won by the girls. The topic "The News Media should refrain from reporting on the private lives of public figures".
A number of members participated in "The Tastes of South Africa" tour organised by Colin Gray.
The Sister Club relationship with the Monza Ovest Club in Italy was celebrated.
Tatsumi Nishyama (Tatchan) an Exchange Student in 1975/76 visited the club.
Miki Asami Exchange Student 1993 returned to the club.
Krishan Anand, Peter Slattery and Roger Dunn were inducted.
October 1999. Club tourists returned from South Africa.
A Fellowship visit to China Town was organised by Colin Campbell.
PP John Hayes and son Simon completed a 3000 kilometre journey by car from Gilgandra to Gosford raising $11000 of the total $642000 raised in this eventful Camp Quality Caper.
Bowel Scan Kits were distributed to local pharmacies. Athol McCoy organised the distribution.
November 1999. An International Community Day was held at Camp Breakaway.
The club Austerity Night was held at the home of Colin and Aliison Gray $729 was raised for International Projects.
Cees Thurmer resigned as RIM editor due to ill health.
Geoff Brundle was inducted.
Riverside clubs held a combined meeting. These clubs are Hunters Hill, Ryde, North Ryde, Eastwood, Gladesville, Rydalmere and Epping.
The Langston Award was presented to Amy Smith of Epping West Public School.
Amy was the 81st recipient and was selected as an Olympic Torch Bearer.
Food Parcels were collected for Eastwood Christian Community Aid.
The annual Meadowbank Mystery Tour for nursing Home Residents was organised by John Briscoe and assisted by students from Cheltenham Girls' High and Epping Boys' High Schools.
December 1999. A second Tunnel Walk was held through the new Eastern Distributor Tunnel.3 Rotary districts were involved. The funds raised were in aid of The Australian Rotary Health Research Fund, Breast Cancer Research and The Sydney City Mission.John Edwards was the coordinator for our club.
The club supported the local "Carols in The Park" Festival and raised $1321.
A Family Christmas Night was held with Santa and children.
The club was involved with the "Donations in Kind"program. On this occasion Goods for Cambodia. John Briscoe, Colin Gray and Sudath Karunaratne participated in this despatch.
Citizens Awards were presented to 8 local schools.
A Christmas Raffle was held to assist the Epping Shack. $3367 was raised. Richard Farmer coordinated this event.
The club produced a Cookbook to assist Community Funds. Ian & Lyn Mackay organised this development with assistance from Rotannes.
January 2000. Larissa Western was chosen to attend the RYLA Camp.
Exchange Student Kamala Truelove returned home from Brazil.
The club sponsored Astrid Loch-Wilkinson to the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra.
Long-standing and esteemed member PP Fred Arthur resigned. Fred was inducted in 1974/75.
Long-standing and esteemed member and club vexilologist PP Bob Paisley resigned. Bob was inducted in 1969/70.
Australia Day Celebrations were held in Forest Park. Elizabeth Wright Paralympian Ambassador attended. The event was arranged by Richard Farmer.
A Fellowship Visit to Fox Studios was arranged by John Goddard.
Exchange Student Emmeline Goodchild departed for Denmark.
A joint meeting was held with the Ryde Club. The club lost the "Canary " Singing Competition.
February 2000. A Fellowship Weekend was held at Budgewoi at the holiday home of Stan Ledger. 20 members attended..
The Prime Minister John Howard presented Certificates of Appreciation to Bruce & Janet Edwards, Caroline Brereton, Tony & Sandra Castley and Marcus Stewart in recognition of their community work in Nepal.
Michael Du Plessis Resigned having been inducted 1998/9.
A Fellowship 60's Party was held. 55 attended and was organised by Lyn Mackay, John Payne, Richard Farmer, Ken McPhail and Bob Smeallie.
The club contributed to the District funding of a Cat Scan Machine for despatch to Nepal.
Marj. Niccol wife of former Past President and Charter Member John Niccol became the National Veteran Tennis Singles Champion.
March 2000. The Clubs 3rd Golf Day was again held at Pennant Hills Golf Club. The major sponsor was the Keith Williams TCR Internet. 115 golfers played. 142 attended the dinner and auction. $22481 was raised and a Packer Wacker was donated to The NSW Ambulance Service,the major beneficiary of the day .
The District Conference was held at the Olympic site. 28 from Epping attended.
Graham Simons organised Successful Home Dinner Parties for new and longstanding club members and partners.
Epping hosted a combined meeting of Riverside clubs.
A GSE Team from North Florida USA visited the club.
The District GSE Team to Florida was farewelled at the Winston Hills Club. Martin Davies a member of the team was sponsored by Epping Club.
April 2000. The club joined with Epping RSL for an Anzac Service in Boronia Park. The District Assembly was again held at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst.
Ian McIntyre was inducted with the classification of Engineering Services.
The board granted Honorary Membership to PP Bob Paisley and PP Fred Arthur.
May 2000. The District GSE Team returned from Florida.
The Ikebukuro Sister Club relationship was celebrated at the Okori- Teppan-Yaki restaurant.
PP Graham Simons and PP Monica Saville were presented with Paul Harris Fellowship Awards.
The club assisted with the Red Shield appeal in our local area. Our participation was organised by Richard Farmer.
A Community Service award was presented to Ann Baguley. John Briscoe was responsible for this award.
Pride of Workmanship Awards were presented to Jacqueline Lilley, Simon Tang, Susan Koboroff and Debra Trainor.
The Club assisted with the donation (DIK Program) of a container of Medical Supplies to Cambodia.
Nev. Steer resigned. His last induction was in 1996/97.
The Ryde Ambulance Service was presented with a cheque amounting to $13,500 enabling the purchase of a Lifepack Defibrillator.
Geoff Hollings was inducted with the classification of Energy Production.
June 2000. PP Roy Sadler was awarded the Order of Australia for service to youth through Rotary International. Roy richly deserved this award. Graham Stevens nominated Roy for this prestigious Award.Past members Dr David Pullen and Charles Brown were also mentioned in the Order Of Australia Honours List.
The District Governor Larry Jacka presented the club with an RI Presidential Citation at the club changeover of President and officers.
Membership at June 30 2000 - 60 - including 4 Honorary Members.
