Announcements:
· We have received a check for $750 from Dillons plumbing for their site for the Garden Expo and Three Phase Power has now been connected to the site.
· If anyone can help in the organisation of the expo or know of possible businesses that would be interested in renting a site, please see Paul Cole.
· Thanks again to John Nash, Dennis Woolaston, Steve Beaton, Bill Warburton, John Frame and Bennett McCorkell for their help with the YEP tour.
Special Mentions:
Paul Cole
The work for the Garden Expo is progressing. Letters have been sent out to potential exhibitors and we will now follow those up personally. In conjunction with the Expo will be the Botanic Gardens Spring Fair and the opening of the mini railway through the park so we are envisaging a good role up of people for the weekend. We will also be selling some books that we kept aside from the last Annual book sale, however these will be predominantly garden books. A roster will be developed for the weekend as we will need assistance with running of various activities/sites such as the BBQ/drinks stall, Book stall, Entry collections, etc so please get your name down as we need you.
Weekly Reminders:
· Blood Donations—When you give blood tell them you’re a member of Tamworth Rotary as part of the Donor Challenge! Blood and plasma are both needed urgently!
· Rotary Gear—Signs, posters, etc. Has anyone seen all this stuff??? Check your sheds!
· Breakfast Café—Volunteers are urgently required, even if it is only sporadic.
· To all business owners! Rotary is looking for business sponsorship for the district conference, if you think you could help in this way it would be greatly appreciated.
Bill Warburton 5 minutes.
The joke was thoroughly enjoyed by all as always. Well done Bill!
Secretary:
Paul Ying
· Reminder to check info in the Secretaries folder being circulated,
· A message has been received from the organisers of the YEP Tour thanking our club for the great hospitality it showed.
· District Governor’s news letter has been released, the club has four copies for anyone to access if interested.
Attendance:
Deputy Attendance Officer Bruce pulled a number out of the air: 75.409%
Sgt At Arms Bruce
A good session from Bruce as always.
Guest Speaker:
Rod Truston, a local stock broker spoke to us about investments and ways to make money from the stock market. A very well organised and informative speech (albeit technologically unfortunate)—here are just a few of the tips he gave:
· Watch in the coming months for Market Volatility, this includes the Sub Prime Crisis in the U.S, oil prices, credit crunches, currency fluctuations and interest rates
· Keep an eye on professional opinions of the Global Economic Outlook, markers include the Banking Landscape, Energy Prices and Weakening Consumer Confidence
· Main trading for Australia is found in China. Fluctuations in the Chinese market affect Australia. Continuing urbanisation of China and India will only improve and strengthen the Australian economy.
DON’T FORGET THE BOARD MEETING BOARD MEMBERS!!
And remember to smile for the camera! :)
Some important dates to remember
9/9 Club Assembly and Board meeting
21/9 GSE Team Leader selections at Quirindi
26/9 Zone Public Speaking Comp finals at Walcha

MEMBERSHIP GOALS
As all members would be aware we have set ourselves a goal of increasing our membership by 10% or roughly 6 new members whilst maintaining our current membership and have developed a plan to achieve that. Should we succeed we would receive a certificate signed by the RI President and if we achieve a result in the top 10 Clubs we would get a Mont Blac pen or similar recognition at the 2009 RI Convention.
Lets make sure we meet our goals!
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
It’s occurred to me that the bulletin can get a little bit dull… And I’d hate to be wasting my time writing something the didn’t get read so I’m trialing a bit of a comedy forum—If you have a joke or funny pictures or anything you think could make our members smile, email it to me at bennmccorkell@bigpond.com and I’ll put it in!!
The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson , died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur. 'Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want to in heaven.'
Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, ' I want to hang out with God.' St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God.
God recognized Arthur and commented, 'Okay, so you were the one who invented the Harley-Davidson motorcycle? '
Arthur said, 'Yeah, that's me...'
God commented: 'Well, what's the big deal in inventing something that's pretty unstable, makes noise and pollution and can't run without a road?'
Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but finally spoke, 'Excuse me, but aren't you the inventor of woman?' God said, 'Ah, yes.'
'Well,' said Arthur, 'professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention!
1. There's too much inconsistency in the front-end suspension
2. Most rear ends are too soft and wobble about too much
3. It chatters constantly at high speed
4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust
5. The maintenance costs are outrageous!!!!
'Hmmmmm, you may have some good points there,' replied God, 'hold on.'
God went to his Celestial supercomputer, typed in a few words and waited for the results.
The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it.
'Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,' God said to Arthur, 'but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours'.
Hope you all enjoyed the meeting and keep enjoying the Fellowship of Rotary!
