Our
three annual Club projects are:
Bookfest from
Saturday, April 18, to Saturday, April
25, 2009 starting 9.00am each day except
Anzac Day, 11.00am
Melbourne Cup
Sweep for six days before the Melbourne Cup
Bowelscan from Saturday, March 07 to March 14, 2009 at Park Beach Plaza
The Club’s other community projects vary from year to
year.
The Club has contributed significant amounts towards the
acquisition of an ambulance for that great voluntary organization, St John
Ambulance, and also for the running costs of the new patrol boat for Coffs
Coastal Patrol, another great voluntary
organization in our community.
The Club's major project each year is the
Bookfest
Bookfest is the sale
to the public of secondhand books over a full
week in the school
holidays in April. This Rotary year
the Bookfest
will be at the
Exhibition Hall at Coffs Harbour Showground for the
first week of the
school holidays in April from Saturday,
April 12, to Saturday, April 19, 2008
.
Books are donated by the public and
collected by our members all year.
We will be holding several drop off days where the public can bring
their books to our Col Shelton Rotary
Shed at the Coffs Harbour Showground and join us for a sausage
sizzle. Dates will be advertised on
2Air FM and in the Advocate.
We are now able to store and
sort our books as we
collect them during the
course of the year as we
have recently constructed
our own Storage Shed in
the
grounds of the Coffs Harbour Showground.
Work starts in earnest for our Bookfest in
late January with the distribution of flyers and picking up of books from
the public and our drop off centres at City Centre Travel Service,
Bananacoast Credit Union Branches and Coffs City Printing. Most books will be categorised and sorted
at our shed before being moved to the Exhibition Hall for the Bookfest.
The Bookfest provides most of the
Club’s funds, is a community service by providing books at reasonable
prices to the book loving public and enables educational books to be
collected and sent to the Pacific Islands for school
students.
To have your books picked up, please phone
Peter on 0421 274 520
or Jim on 6652 9827 or 0413 900 138
The Melbourne Cup Sweep
This is run for six days prior to the
running of the Melbourne Cup.
Tickets are sold at each of the three shopping centres, Park Beach Plaza, Palms Shopping Centre
and Centro Toormina Shopping Centre.
Bowelscan
This project
involves the sale of bowel
scan kits during
the first week in March
at two sites at Park Beach Plaza.
It is a community
service that assists
in the early
detection of bowel cancer.
