A MESSAGE FROM YOLA

26 December 2005

Hello!
I don't even know where to start! There has been so much going on this year and I can't remember when I wrote the last time. I know that is really bad that I can't even remember.
I'm sorry about that. However I do think often about Australia and I'm trying to figure out when I can come back.
Actually before I start telling you what I did the last few month I should wish you a very Merry Christmas first!
You guys probably spent a nice day at the beach or something similar to that. Something I only can dream of. We don't even have snow .
Very sad. Never mind.
OK, let me start last June when I finally graduated!!!!! That was a fun time! Lots of partying was going on then.
However I only started before my last exams to work and I continued that. Therefore I earned heaps of money and I was able to travel to India!
It was a great trip! Some organisation organized this trip through the north of India where we could stay with host families! We were a group of nine people around my age coming from France , Austria and of course Germany.
Thankfully it was a very nice group because I think otherwise  it would have been a lot harder to survive those 5 weeks!
It was quite shocking! Although we all heard about lots of  poverty in India you can't imagine how it really looks like over there. You can't describe. We experienced so much its hard to believe.
Even though we already stayed with wealthier people we were quite pleased in case we had a shower not mentioning hot water. It was just all dirty wherever you looked.
And the poverty was sickening; at least in the beginning. It was kind of scary though how quick you get used to see these poor people living in the dirt.
I guess we all became much  more thankful for the privileged life we are able to live.

But now to a different topic!
I am now studying medicine in Aachen! That is just next to Belgium and the Netherlands! It's a very nice city and by now I really love it to be there.
Nevertheless it was quite hard in the beginning to live on my own not knowing anybody, not being able to come home on the weekend because
 its too far.
However I met a great bunch of new people and it is so much fun! Although studies are not easy..
Therfore my Christmas holidays are planned with studying, studying, studying. Especially because my school suggested me for a scholarship and for them I have to do a speech which is not easy to write.
Well, that's so far from me.
I miss you all and can't wait to see you guys again.
Lots of love and also a good start in the new year.
