Report from Vocational Director – 2004/2005
During the last 12 months the club has enjoyed a couple of interesting visits organised by the Vocational Director. Firstly, a tour of the Gold Coast Institute of Tafe, Tourism and Hospitality School. The head chef in the Institute’s 5 star restaurant hosted members of the club and allowed us to tour the kitchens and back of house facilities. Club members were introduced to a number of apprentice chefs – one of whom is a deaf student who was assisted during her course by a volunteer “signer”. The club members then enjoyed a three course meal served to us by the wait staff who are in training at the school. Some of these students are combining their love of surfing and golf in tandem with a tourism and hospitality course. Our next factory visit was to the Carlton United Brewery site at Yatala. Club members where transported around the large ultra modern site and our young and very informative guide proudly showed us the latest multi million dollar renovations that have only recently been completed. We were treated to a few free beverages prior to a delicious meal. Our fund raiser has been a Joker Raffle which although only proceeding for a couple of months has raised over $800.00. Hopefully, the jackpot will continue with a large pot of money to be won in the future by a lucky Rotarian and equal funds poured back into the club for distribution to our various projects. |
