History of Vocational Service

1993/4 Paddy Nicholls was Director. Members job talks were introduced as a regular feature of meetings. Mr Peter Burroughs, Director of Gold Coast Institute of TAFE addressed the Club on organisational change within the Institute.

1995/6 Carl Halls was Director. During the year three vocational visits to the business premises of members were organised. Vocational talks by members were continued. Gary Cummins assisted with the perpetual shield for the business in the area award.

1996/7 Steve Sizmur was Director. Business in Area Award was continued and Pride of Workmanship Awards introduced. During Vocational Service Month the Club awarded three Certificates of Excellence to local business and professional people. Two vocational visits to the workplace of members were undertaken.

1997/8 Sandy Deans commenced the year as Director but on leaving for Sydney arranged for Peter Richards to assume this role. The Club maintained the vocational program of job talks, vocational visits and awards during the year.

1998/9 Bev Foster served as Vocational Service Director.  Vocational visits were undertaken to the Carlton United Brewery and the Motor Sports Gallery and Performance Driving Centre. Awards for Vocational Excellence were presented CJ's at the Link - Training Restaurant at Griffith University;  Bill Cunningham, Junior School Principal of A. B. Paterson College and Ruth Wilson for community work. The Business in the Area Award for the year was made to Olsen's Italian Restaurant, Parkwood.

1999/2000  Wayne Matheson commenced the year as Director. When he resigned his membership, Mike Bottomley assumed the role of Director. The biggest vocational service event of the year was the visit to Riviera Marine.  During
that visit the Vocational Service Award for the year was presented to the company. The Company employs over 80
apprentices and has given support to Rotary projects such as RYLA. The website for the Company may be reached by
clicking here: .    During the year much interest was maintained in vocational talks given by members at our weekly
meetings.

2000/2001  Kim Myers served as Director. Plans were in hand for a CPR training night. The day at Gold Coast Turf Club races helped with Club fund raising and plans were hand for another day of this nature on 1 September. Vocational/fund raising nights were held at Olsens and Holy Mackerel Restaurants. Vocational awards were presented to Lesley Gill, Terri Sibberas and Jenny Downes. A vocational visit was made to the Rimco factory of David Rolle.

2001/2002 Doug Thomas served as Director. CPR Training was featured with several members qualifying as Trainers.
This was followed by training sessions for members and partners at "Guess whose coming to Dinner" functions.
Vocational talks were given by new members and all members encouraged to maintain up-to-date personal profiles on the Club website. In addition links were provided to the business websites of members. The committee also assisted in the encouragement of new members and membership retention.

2003/2004 Rob Trenerry and Alison Apps served as Directors.  Several members shared their travel and life experiences when they acted as Guest Speakers at weekly meetings. A vocational visit was made to the Helensvale Fire Station, followed by dinner at a local Chinese Restaurant.

2007/2008 - Susan Tyrrell served as Director. The Annual Report featured the Bravehearts Vocational Evening at RIMCO factory and
Shave for a Cure, with the help of PP Mark Kent resulted in raising $4512 for the Leukaemia Foundation.  2007/2008 reports.
