Convention Resources
  LA Convention

Will you be attending the LA Convention? If so, come to the Resource Booth and meet me, the editor of Rotary Training Talk to discuss training in your club and district. You can also pick up your free copy of The Club Leadership Plan and our newest publication, Leadership Development: Your Guide to Starting a Program.

Consider attending the incoming club presidents, club leadership plan, and developing club leaders workshops. Refer to your program book for specific dates and times.

Train the Trainer in the District Training Manual

Consider organizing a train the trainer seminar for everyone involved with delivery of training. This is a great opportunity to share best practices with a beginning trainer, or an opportunity to refresh skills and increase the level of consistency among the training team.

For more information, go to chapter 3 of the District Training Manual and use the Train the Trainer session guide to customize your Train the Trainer seminar. A sample, one-day agenda, session outline, and handouts are included in the chapter. For each topic, choose discussion questions and suggested activities that best meet the needs of your participants.

Here is an example of an activity from Session 2: Training Rotarians:

Post each method on how adults retain information on paper around the room (see learning pyramid in handout 2). Ask participants to get up and stand by the method they prefer. Now that participants are grouped, ask them to discuss why their method is most effective. Have each group present why their method is best. Refer participants to the learning pyramid, and discuss whether they agree or disagree with the findings.

If you have used the Train the Trainer session guide, please share your experience by emailing training.talk@rotary.org.

Are you a training professional?

If training or adult education is your classification or profession, please let us know. We are looking to communicate with colleagues in the adult education field on our current resources and future offerings. If you are willing to share your vocational talents, please email training.talk@rotary.org.

Rotary Fellowships Month

Whether you're interested in golf, humanitarian service, or gourmet cooking connect with Rotarians who share your interests by joining a Global Networking Group. These groups include Rotary Fellowships, which bring Rotarians together for recreational and vocational activities, and Rotarian Action Groups, which unite members in the spirit of service.

View a complete list of Rotary Fellowships and Rotarian Action Groups, or contact the Global Networking Groups coordinator for more information.

Training Tip

The following activity is fun and stresses the importance of effective communication. Ask participants to find a partner. Give one person a picture and have that person describe the picture to their partner without letting them see the picture. Their partner must then draw the picture as described. As a follow up, ask the group to discuss what they learned during the activity and how it can apply to the training subject.
