Michael is a Charter Member of the Club and holds the classification of Welding Supplies Retailing. . He was born in Brisbane in December, 1956 and lived there for 38 years. He was educated at Yeronga High School and after completing year 10 in 1971 he started work as a Sheetmetal Worker the following year.

In 1980 he married Kaylene Joy Beardmore of Moorooka. In 1985 their son, Matthew Luke, was born and two years later their daughter, Mahnee Alyce, arrived. Having one of each sex, Kay said that was enough.

In 1982 Michael started his first business, manufacturing air conditioning ducts. He sold this business in 1985.

Michael entered into a 50% partnership of his present business, Aitken Welding Supplies, in 1987. He increased his interest to 75% two years later and acquired total ownership on the retirement of Roy Aitken after another two years.

In 1985 Michael joined the Mt Gravatt Apex Club and after serving in several portfolios he held office as President in 1990. He resigned from Apex to become a Charter Member of the Parkwood Rotary Club.

Michael served as Sergeant-at-Arms of the Club for 1994/95 and as Treasurer for 1995/96 and again for 2001/2. He was President-elect/Club Service Director for 2002/3 and is serving as President for 2003/4. His Presidential page may be reached by clicking here.

Michael is a member of the Southport Surf Life Saving Club; he has received his Bronze Certificate and actively patrols the beaches during the surf season.
