WHERE WE HAVE BEEN

Redland Bay Outing
A cloudy day which looked as if it might rain turned out to be warm and fine for our trip around Redland Bay area.  The name of the road we followed, Serpentine Creek Road summed up our day as it was a 'serpentine' drive around many different areas.   We had many coastal views of Russell Island and North Stradbroke Island and passed though the old market garden area of Redland Bay.  This area is now being developed for new housing  and many of the market gardens have disappeared.  We called in at the Coochiemudlo Island ferry wharf and could see the island in the distance.  It is an historic island as the Surveyor on Captain Cook's voyage landed there and surveyed it.  Then we passed through the pretty area of Victoria Point and on to our de luxe morning tea which had been organised by Bob at the newly built Tranquil Waters Retirement Village.

After enjoying our home-made scones with jam and cream we were taken on a tour of the amenities which included an overhead projector for showing movies, library,. computer room, billiards room and swimming pool etc.  We were taken to see two display homes with some members being given a ride in a 'golf buggy-type' vehicle and giving the rest of us the 'royal wave' as they passed by.  The homes were beautifully appointed with plenty of storage space, spacious kitchens and rooms.  The prices ranged from the low $300,000s to the high $500,000s for a waterfront view.

The first of our plant nursery stops was at Roundabout Nursery with their new stock being transferred from their Logan Nursery.  Then it was on to have lunch at the Victoria Point Town Centre or at the nearby picnic ground for those who had taken a packed lunch.  After that  we travelled on to two more plant nurseries and Bob's area in the front of the bus became adorned with a colourful array of orchids, ferns, dianthus and many other plants.  Our next stop at the Green Secrets Nursery proved to be a happy event for one of our members who had been looking for an old fashioned violet for a long time.  The nursery very kindly donated it to her.  The Mt Cotton Rainforest Gardens provided us with sale price plants and a great view over to Moreton Bay.  The Strawberry Farm at Pimpama on the way home provided us  our usual 'ice-cream stop' and then we were on our way home after a very pleasant day's outing.  Our thanks must go to Bob for organising our lovely free morning tea and giving us another great day out.
