Dinner in honour of RotaryInternational
      President-elect Jonathon Majiyagbe

 

            Multi Club Dinner an Outstanding Success

The dinner held on 27 August 2002 was an outstanding success with an attendance
of 320 Rotarians, Rotaractors, Ambassadorial Students, Exchange Students and Guests.
President-elect of Rotary International, Jonathon Majiyagbe, met many in the large 
crowd and his address was well received by an appreciative audience. The roll-call 
indicated that members of Clubs from many parts of District 9640 were present.
Congratulations are due to Margaret Grummitt, President of Parkwood Rotary Club, for
hosting the dinner and Brian Knowles for capably undertaking the role of Chairman.
President Margaret  expressed her appreciation to the members of her Club who 
assisted with the arrangements and the management and staff of Southport Sharks
Club for their co-operation. She particularly thanked her Rotary Club Secretary, Margaret 
Cressey, for her efforts and Alan Yovich for the entertainment.
The dinner resulted in a surplus of $1,100 which will be donated to PolioPlus.

Parkwood Rotary Club will host a dinner for RI President-elect
Jonathon Majiyagbe on Tuesday 27 August 2002 at 6pm for 6.30pm
at Sharks QFL Club, Southport at cost of $25 per head.

Margaret Grummitt, President, Parkwood Rotary Club, is inviting all
Clubs in the District to be represented at the dinner and is co-ordinating
arrangements with District Governor Ross Smith. 

President Margaret extends an invitation to all Rotarians and their
partners to enjoy the fellowship of dinner with the President-elect of
Rotary International.

                                JONATHON MAJIYAGBE

Jonathan Majiyagbe, a senior advocate of Nigeria, is the principal counsel of the law firm 
J.B. Majiyagbe & Company, in Kano. A member of the Nigerian and English bars, Majiyagbe
also belongs to the Honourable Body of Benchers, the panel that evaluates the qualifications 
of those seeking to practice law in Nigeria and formally calls them to the bar. He is a graduate
of London University and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London.

Majiyagbe is chairman of the Kano State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and was for
many years chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Kano. He is also a member of the Kano 
Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture and is trustee of various international
cultural organizations.

A Rotarian since 1967, Majiyagbe has served RI as district governor, International Assembly
discussion leader, committee member and chairman, Foundation trustee, aide to the president, 
and director. He is past chairman of the African Regional PolioPlus Committee and the African 
Affairs Committee. Majiyagbe is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Kano. He and his 
wife, Ade, are Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation.
