· Total global cases in 2006: 1791 (compared with 1628 for the same period in 2005)
· Total in endemic countries: 1682 (compared with 722 for the same period in 2005)
· Total in non-endemic countries: 109 (compared with 906 for the same period in 2005)
· Afghanistan: 29 cases (compared with 6 for the same period in 2005), onset of paralysis of most recent case: 29 Sep 2006
· Angola: 1 case (compared with 9 for the same period in 2005), onset of paralysis of most recent case: 27 Jun 2006
· Bangladesh: 15 cases (compared with 0 for the same period in 2005), onset of paralysis of most recent case: 22 Aug 2006
· Cameroon: 1 case (compared with 1 for the same period in 2005), onset of paralysis of most recent case: 22 Aug 2006
· DRC: 8 cases (compared with 0 for the same period in 2005), onset of paralysis of most recent case: 13 Aug 2006
· Ethiopia: 16 cases (compared with 18 for the same period in 2005), onset of paralysis of most recent case: 16 Oct 2006
