Born in 1929 at Wynnum, near Brisbane. The eldest of six children.
Lived in Brisbane in the early years. The family moved to a dairy
farm in 1939 and came to Hope Island in 1943 to operate a dairy farm
there. Married Betty (the girl next door) in 1950 and left to work
on a farm at Benowa. Ken's father later sold the Hope Island
property so Ken and Betty moved back there to manage the dairy for
the new owners. They acquired a half interest in the property and
subsequently purchased the whole. The Hope Island property was
developed into a highly productive milk supplier. As Ken was
interested in marketing he became a Director of Co-operatives
involved with the transport and marketing of milk, Ken and Betty
sold the farm in 1988 having lived there for 45 years. Ken and Betty
have four children, Fay. Julie, Pamela and Colin. They have eleven
grandchildren, the eldest is twenty-one, and the youngest, thirteen
year old triplets. The family and their education and development
have been the main focus of their life. Ken is a Foundation Member
of the Advisory Council of Griffith University, Gold Coast. He is
currently a Member of the Board of the Student Guild He is the
Treasurer of the Labrador Senior Citizens Centre. He was President
of the Rotary Club of Southport North in 1978/79 and Governor of
District 963 in 1981/82. He joined the Parkwood Rotary Club in 1995
and was Secretary for 1996/97.
