Edition: Volume 13 No. 1

12th July 2006

Meets Tuesdays 6.00pm for 6.30pm at Fiascos Restaurant, Parkwood Tavern, Olsen Ave, Parkwood

WELCOME to the new look, newly named fresh faced weekly publication for our club. As with a great many things I aim to do this year, I am looking at change, and the lines of communication within the club is a good start. Getting the format correct may take some time and obviously any input from any of the members about Fair-Ways will be appreciated. So please let me know what you think or any comments you have. Congrats to Mike Coghlan for picking the winning name-a bottle of the best awaits your return-if the President doesn’t claim it first!

NEW EDITOR                                      Finding an editor for the bulletin is now paramount. I am happy to keep it going in July until we have the format correct but I need an editor starting August. Preferably a non-board member who can spend a short time each week compiling it. It is in html so having MS Front Page will make it easy. Just type. The template will be provided and you will just need to fill in the blanks and maybe able to get your creative juices involved where required.. Please let me know if you are interested.

THE CHANGEOVER seems to have been a successful night. Not only for the event but also for the bank balance. We made just under $1000.00 profit. Thanks to John Smith for handling all the money and collating the figures for the night and to all those who attended and made it such a great night. Special thanks to our MC Rob Molhoek who did a great job

CHRISTMAS IN JULY IS NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT. Remember it is Christmas so wear the Christmas colours and bring your festive spirit. By now most of you would have provided your attendance to Susan but if not, please do so immediately. Pres Mark and Jan will make it interesting - and fun-that’s their guarantee! Instead of giving a gift like we usually do, it has been suggested that the $5.00 we would have spent will go the Rotary Foundation-our charity. Some interesting raffle prizes and a few other surprises await.

A NEW MEMBER proposal has been received by the board from David Rolle. Teresa Dawson, the wife of a past member, has applied for membership to the club. The board has approved her application. Any objections to her becoming a member must be received by the secretary in writing within 7 days. Teresa comes to us with the classification Promotional Merchandising.

AT THE MEETING on 11th JULY whilst the numbers were light on, it was still a good night. Susan equipped herself admirably as SAA and fined almost all in attendance with Changeover associated offences and seemed to target the new President specifically. John Smith bragged about his 78 off the stick as well. .Ken Smith got the lucky number (and in usual fashion returned it to the club) and whoever won Heads and Tails was overlooked by your stand in editor-sorry about that!

THE CLUB ASSEMBLY saw Pres Mark inform members as to the proposed new club format for meetings which will include:

  • Scrapping the colour groups and appointing a board member and a club member to run the show for a specific month. The rosters will be  prepared shortly and published here.

This will give all members a say in the operation of our club and create involvement at all levels.
  • More out-of-club functions to create awareness of our club within our community. These should run at 6 or 7 per year and individual board directors are encouraged to fundraise using this as a base. These will also be partner and guests nights.
  •  Focus on our membership through public awareness rather than trying to "grab" people off the street.
  • Focus on local community projects and use our funds for development and warranted causes within our local area.

Suggestions by members include focussing on a greater "bonding" with Ambassadorial Scholars, Peace Scholars and GSE Teams and continuing with 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' as a method of raising funds for the Foundation., both of which we intend to do.

REMEMBER it is our club so the President really wants to hear what we all want and he is looking for feedback from everyone.

THE LAST WORD . Well that's the new look Bulletin. It will take some getting used to and I would like to hear any compliments or criticisms so we can get it the way you like it. Don't forget, we need an editor! Scroll down and you will see a list of upcoming events. This will vary from week to week and it is essential that members notify the editor of any news items required or date claimers for inclusion by email no later than Wednesday morning after the regular meeting.
