The Rotary Club of Parkwood
Club Service Director Report 2005/06 The role of Club Service Director is a challenging role in that it requires the individual to not only take steps towards ensuring the Club runs smoothly but also, within this Club, the role undertaken by the President elect. Consequently, a considerable amount of time is also spent in preparation for the upcoming year and planning programs with the President as well. In 2005/06, the focus of the International Body, Rotary International, was on Membership retention and, if possible, an increase in Membership numbers. In doing so, the Club undertook several programs designed at achieving this goal. These included: · In the first part of the year having each Director present a summary of their portfolio to create greater awareness within the Club. · Have a number of out-of-Club functions to promote goodwill and fellowship within the Club. · Have a “New Members” night to encourage new Members to the Club. · Hold a “Trivia Night” about Rotary within the Club to enlighten and educate the Members. Generally the programs had some success. The Trivia and Out of Club Nights were successful with the proceeds of one of the latter being donated to Rotary District 9550 for the Cyclone Larry Appeal. The New Members’ night has opened the door for a number of potential Rotarians and the Club is continuing with its endeavours to gain new Members. Two people who have been associated with the Club have now been nominated for Membership and accepted by the Board. It is hoped that they will be inducted at the Annual Changeover Dinner. During the year, a contact the Club has with Arundel State Primary School contacted Parkwood Rotary to assist him in arranging a $7,000.00 donation to be made to the Gadge Maharaj Vidyalay School in Pune, India through the Matching Grant Program. It is anticipated that this process will be finalised shortly.
