History of Club Service

1993/4 - Debra Harris served as Director. The Club was chartered with 32 members and completed the year with 29. The weekly Bulletin was inaugurated, strong fellowship developed between members and rosters commenced for weekly duties. Lyn Nelson and John Boughton undertook the editorship of the Bulletin. The Western Function Room at Parklands was established as the Club venue. The Club Treasurer was Jenny Pearce for the start of the year, followed by Villi Grdovich.

1994/5 Ken Nelson served as Director and the year finished with 28 members, following the loss of six members which was offset by five inductions .Ian Balmain was Bulletin Editor and Fellowship included a combined Christmas Party and Car Rally with Air Sea Rescue. Club banners were introduced, as well as a notice board and a greeter at the door for each meeting.

1995/6 Peter Richards served as Director and Mike Bottomley as Treasurer. The membership at the end of the year was 25. Lyn Nelson had the onerous task of Bulletin Editor.

1996/7 Kim Myers was Director and Lyn Nelson, Treasurer. The membership at the end of the year was 29, after the loss of four members and the induction of eight. The introduction of an annual new Member Meeting helped to increase membership. Doug Thomas, David Reardon and David Rolle undertook production and distribution of the Bulletin.

1997/8 Lyn Nelson was Director and Past RI Treasurer Brian Knowles, Treasurer. Membership at the end of the year was 31. Doug Thomas, David Reardon and David Rolls continued with the Bulletin.

1998/9 Gary Cummins assumed the office of Club Service Director during the year.  Although there was a decline in membership, all avenues of Club Service were well maintained due to the commitment and support of members. The backdrop of our meetings was greatly improved with the completion of demountable screens for the display of banners etc,  thanks to the efforts of John Selsby, Ken Nelson and Gary Cummins.
The production and distribution of the Bulletin was undertaken by Doug Thomas, John Selsby and Lyn Nelson.  Richard Cover held the office of Treasurer for the year.

1999/2000 Gary Cummins was Director and Sel Hardy, Treasurer for the year.  Doug Thomas and PDG Ken Smith maintained the weekly club bulletin, which was also distributed electronically to those members with Internet service. A successful membership meeting was organised and six new members were inducted. The Rotary library was maintained for the information of members. The office of Sergeant-at-Arms was undertaken by a number of members on a roster basis. The fellowship of the club was maintained at a high level. Past Rotary International Director/Treasurer and member of Parkwood Rotary Club, Brian Knowles, was honoured with the announcement on Australia Day, 2000 of  the award to him of an AM 
(Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia). Details of Brian's Service may be found at


2000/2001 David Rolle was Director of Club Service, Mark Kent (Secretary), Ken Alderton (Treasurer), Doug Thomas (Bulletin Editor) - assisted by Ken Alderton and Mark Kent at different periods during the year. Gary Cummins looked after Duty Rosters and other behind the scenes work
Club membership remained at an average of 24. The membership project "Club within a Club" was undertaken towards the end of the Rotary year and the follow-up phase will be continued in 2001/2.

2001/2002 Margaret Grummitt was Director of Club Service, Mark Kent (Secretary), Mike Bottomley (Treasurer), Doug Thomas (Bulletin Editor) - assisted by Ken Alderton. Gary Cummins looked after Duty Rosters and other behind the scenes work. The venue of the Club was changed to Fiasco's Restaurant, Parkwood Tavern, from January 2002. The number of members at the end of the year was 28.

Committees for 2002/2003

2003/2004 Mike Bottomley, President; Karyn Joyner, Secretary; Mark Kent, Treasurer; with Klaus Mikschi as Club Service Director and John Smith, Bulletin Editor. The number of members was 29 at 30 June 2004 with inductions of Alison Apps, Brett Shearer and Ken Bonython and allowing for resignations of several worthy members. The 10th anniversary of the Club was celebrated with a dinner at CIAO's restaurant on 10 September 2003 - see photos. The Christmas Carols and Party were recorded by photos. A Mothers' Day Plant Sale was held as a fund raiser and $1,000 raised for Queensland Cancer Fund with participation in the Relay for Life. Kay Bottomley organised three successful dinners for partners and ladies of the Club.
