Chicago will be the site of the Rotary International Convention from the 18th to the 22nd June 2005.
This will be one of the highlights of Rotary's centenary year. Chicago is an exciting city, with activities for all of the family.  It is a city with many wonderful theatres, museums and art galleries. It also has activities for the children including zoos and water activities on the shores of Lake Michigan.

With a number of bays along the lake foreshore, there are wonderful vantage points to view the amazing Chicago skyline from across the water (click photos to view):

It is also a city with many parks and gardens in and around the main business district.

The Chicago River makes its way through the city before flowing into Lake Michigan:

One of the features of Chicago is the MAGNIFICENT MILE:

THE MAGNIFICENT MILE has many historic landmarks such as:

The Wrigley Building

Chicago Tribune
Head Office

The Water Tower

     An early church

The Magnificent Mile is a shoppers paradise
with most if not all of the big names displaying their wares

The Magnificent Mile houses the Hancock Tower where you can get spectacular views of the city and surrounds from the observation deck at the top of the building. It gives a different perspective of the skyline of Chicago as shown by the following photos:

It also gives a clear view of Sears Tower (to the right), the world's tallest building:

The view to the north overlooks Lakeshore Drive, and the city of Evanston with a number of high-rise buildings at the top of the picture (including Rotary's own headquarters):

The view to the east overlooks the Navy Pier and Lake Michigan whilst to the south we see a continuation of Lakeshore Drive, through to McCormick Place, the venue for the 2005 Convention.  The square dark building (Lakeside Centre) is a part of the venue and was the site for Rotary's 1980 Convention, celebrating the 75th year of our organization. Immediately below the Lakeside Centre is Soldier's Field, one of the major sporting venues in Chicago, and the building to the front of that is Field Museum, one of many museums around the city.

Lakeside Centre will house the meals functions during next year's event

To the right of Lakeside Centre and across Lakeshore drive the buildings will house the main plenary hall.
see below

Left: Registrations will take place in the ballroom

 McCormick Place has 2.2 million
 square feet of exhibition space
The escalators in the right hand picture go down to the House of Friendship, which will be immediately under the Plenary Hall.
