In co-operation with the Surfers Paradise Central and members of adjoining Clubs, the Parkwood Rotary Club
staged a Melbourne Cup Calcutta at Sharks AFC Southport on 4 November 2002. There was an attendance
of 250 including Rotarians, partners and friends. The proceeds of the evening were donated to assist Andy Csabi
who was badly injured in the Bali tragedy.  Andy is a member of the Surfers Paradise Central Rotary Club and
is a well known local businessman. A highlight of the evening was a broadcast telephone conversation between
President Margaret Grummitt and Andy from his bed in Darwin Hospital.

Andy was transported to Darwin Hospital
in a critical condition, having lost his left
leg above the knee, had part of his right
foot severed, also severe lung damage
and burns. A long period of rehabilitation
and extensive physiotherapy was
necessary before Andy could return
home to some normality.
