Born at Forbes NSW in horse and buggy days of 1927, spent boyhood as eldest of five children on a sheep and wheat property during the depression. Served in local government administration in NSW from 1943 to 1986, qualified as a Town Clerk in 1948, appointed as County Clerk at Parkes NSW in 1949 and served for 22 years in that capacity. County Clerk at Dubbo NSW for 15 years from 1971 until retirement in 1986. Married to Fay at Parkes in 1954, four children - John 1955 (Rotary Exchange Student to Japan 1973 – currently 767 Captain with Skymark Airline, Japan but residing with family on Gold Coast), Margaret 1957 (proprietor of Little Stars Children’s Clothes, Ashmore), Graham 1964, and Bruce 1965 (Graham and Bruce in business in Tokyo). Fay and Bill retired to Gold Coast 1988 - now John, wife Dallis and three sons and Margaret and her two sons reside here – Graham and Keiko and children Niki and Ky and youngest son Bruce with wife Satoko and baby son reside in Tokyo. Charter member of Parkes Apex Club 1949, President 1952/53. Joined Parkes Rotary Club 1957 - served as International Service Director and two terms as Bulletin Editor. Charter member Dubbo West Rotary Club 1972, President 1973/74, member of Youth Exchange District Committee for five years, Chairman 2 years. Served as a member of Balmoral Rotary Club (D9680 Sydney) 1986 to 1988. Joined Southport North Rotary Club in 1988 and served two terms as Secretary - transferred to Parkwood Rotary Club in 1994. Current interests include Rotary, the internet (Parkwood Rotary Webmaster), accounting work for daughter's business, walking, travelling and family activities. June2006 |
