2002 was the Year of the Outback, and 22 club members and family needed little prompting to stock up and bus out to Mitchell for the August long weekend. Saturday evening we met with members of the Mitchell Rotary Club for dinner, Sunday morning we breakfasted and bathed at the spa pool and wandered along the main street (very interesting footpaths and bottle trees). All refreshed and bus stocked up again, we headed out to the property of one of our club members, Don Allen (and his wife Terese), to enjoy a unique barbecue in the dry bed of the Maranoa River. Monday morning, we caught up with the history of the area at the old Court House and learnt all about the notorious Kenniff brothers before setting off east back home via the Big Rig at Roma. Lots of good fellowship, food, exercise and laughter to encourage us to plan for the following year's trip! |
